Directions for Facebook Page Setup
You must have a Facebook account to create a Page or Group. It's recommended to sign up for a personal account first.
Scroll to the bottom of any Facebook page and click on the Advertising button.
This brings you to the Advertising page. I haven't used Facebook advertising yet because I don't have a lot of extra cash in my business and I am having great results without that.
Click on the Pages button, next to the Advertising button.
Click the green "Create a Page" button.
This is located on the top right hand side of the page.
Select category.
You can not undo the category selection once the page is created, so give consideration to this. I wish I had known this when I created mine. Ah... that's why it's listed under Other Public Figure! No, I did not think I was that high on the food chain.
Title the Page as you wish.
Again, give this a lot of consideration. I'm sure you already know what you would like to call it. If not, try to make it catchy, unique, and relevant to your content.
Upload an image for your Page.
I used my logo, but you may choose to use your own picture. Two ways to look at that: Personalize and connect with members or Keep your personal life separate from the professional one. There is no right or wrong and I personally think they both work. For me, using my logo helps associate my page with my website.
Fill in basic information like the locatoin of your business.
You will have the option to display this or not. I choose not to because I have a strictly online business. If you have a brick and mortar spot I would definitely publish it!
You can tailor your page to add different applications and buttons. There are thousands out there, so happy exploring! You can do this at a later date if you don't have time during setup.
When ready, hit publish.
Invite people to join the group.
You can do this outside of Facebook. You can publish it on your website, like I have done, announce it on flyers, newsletters (see my review of AWeber Communications), and other creative ways. Just make sure you have it clear:
This will get you started with a Facebook Page. Update it often and create interesting content for people to come back to. For example of a Page, check out Here 2 Help Services or Public reView! Feel free to post reviews of your Fan Page, organization, etc. at Public reView - the publics opinions about products, businesses, websites, and anything else you want to know! It's a great way to draw people to your site.
