My Top 10 Fall Activities to Burn Calories

Fall is the best season! It's not too hot or cold for outdoor activities. And so many activities can help you burn calories. Below are the top 10 activities I like to do in the fall to burn calories and prepare for the winter months.

1. Apple Picking - I am sure you are thinking apple picking doesn't seem that strenuous, but any movement is good movement. Doing movements that you don't normally do get the blood flowing and I bet reaching your arms over your head isn't something you do often. Plus, walking on ground that is not packed down always gives my ankles and calves something different.

2. Scouting - Most people would think number 2 & 3 go together but they don't have to. It's fun to go exploring in nature, especially this time of year. As the weather gets colder, animals seem to move around more so there are more tracks to find. Just make sure to use caution and have an awareness of your surroundings
.

3. Hunting- Personally, I don't hunt, but my boyfriend does. And getting up in the wee hours of the morning to trample through the mountainside is hard work. He looks beat when he gets home, but he loves it!

4. Cleaning up the Garden/Fertilizing - It needs to be done and even though some people think this is not fun, I find it enjoyable. I like putting the garden to rest for the winter by pulling out all the weeds, rotor tilling, and fertilizing.

5. Splitting/Lugging Wood - Prepping your wood to burn for the winter is hard work.

6. Raking Leaves- Great upper body workout, the yard looks great and you can move on to number 7. Raking other people's lawns is good to, especially those that can't.

7. Building a Scarecrow- its fun to get outside, laugh, rustle the leaves, and create this fun lawn decoration. Activity like this burns the calories without you even knowing it!

8. Hiking- In Maine the leaves are so beautiful and I love to get out of doors to view them. The higher the better when it comes to viewing leaves. And they are gorgeous in their hues of gold, orange, red, and green.9. Trick or Treating - Take the kids trick or treating on foot. If you live in a spread out community, get out of the car and go to the door with the kids. Those extra steps will burn calories and you'll get to share the excitement with the kids!

10. Help Others - So many elderly people are living alone without relatives or friends to take care of them. Help those in your neighborhood with winterizing their house and yard. You may develop a lasting friendship with them and the time you give them will go a long way in their  lonelier day.

This is only a small list of activities that can be done during the fall to burn calories but it is a good start to a healthier, happier you!
